harihareshwar

i wish i could draw the rocks at harihareshwar. we sat for long stretches. tracing them with our eyes, following curve and line and cavities, patterns within patterns, taking pleasure in their scales of repetition and variation, some caverns for the eye to disappear into or a mollusc to take shelter in, some for a body to perch in, and some that swept up into the sky overhead. walls of filigree rock that you could climb over play lizard.
feet following hieroglyphs carved by the waves into the shelf of rock. the sea surging and roaring underneath you sometimes.
it is the most spectacular rock formation i have seen with the sea wild, crashing and sucking out holes into the rock. and just across the hill, was the mtdc's flat shelf of a beach and the ocean extending placidly to the horizon.
i remember last years two beaches were so different. and all on the same coastline.
but the loveliest moment was catching sight of the dolphins, their slippery curving dives among the waves. made me gasp.
